Seasonal temps Tuesday, dangerous heat to come for the PNW

PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) -- The final day of seasonal conditions will be felt Tuesday as much of the Portland-Vancouver metro area prepares for dangerous heat later this week.

Mostly sunny and muggy conditions will continue for the Portland area Tuesday. That same feeling will overtake much of western Oregon and southwest Washington. The muggy feeling is due to seasonal temperature, but higher humidity values. So, it will feel sticky and sweaty outside despite temperatures only warming into the mid- to upper-70s.

Record-breaking heat is possible later this week as temperatures climb into the low 100s just after the Fourth of July. The current record for July 6 is 97 degrees -- last broken in 1960. A forecast high of 100 degrees will likely break a new record this weekend.

Excessive Heat Watch

The National Weather Service out of Portland has issued an 'Excessive Heat Watch" from Thursday afternoon to Sunday evening. That's where temperatures have the potential to climb close to 103 degrees. Very little relief from the heat will be felt during the overnight hours. Early morning lows will only fall into the mid- to upper-60s.

Summer temperatures are returning to much of the western half of the country as the first weekend of July approaches. Typically, Portland should see temperatures in the upper-70s to low-80s, but forecast highs put The Rose City nearly 30 degrees warmer than normal later this week.
