‘I was today years old!’ amazed people scream as they learn why 1st, 2nd, 3rd have different letters after the number

HAVE you ever wondered why 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th have different letters after the numbers?

Well, one woman had, and has left people stunned by revealing the reason for the different suffixes.

Chloe has admitted she was left stunned when she realised why first, second and third have different letters after the numbers

Chloe took to TikTok to ask if she’d been “living under a rock” because she’d never realised the common denominator.

“Am I really stupid or did everyone else know this?” she said.

“So you know like first, second, third, fourth, fifth, all of that?

“Did everybody else know that the two letters that come after the number, so first, second, third, are the last two letters of the actual word?”

“So for example, first is ‘ST’, second is ‘ND’, third is ‘RD’.

“I’m mind blown!”

Chloe asked if “anyone else” didn’t know the fact, or whether she’d “informed somebody that that is what it is”.

“Because I have just figured it out and I’m nearly 30 years old!” she concluded.

“HOW HAVE I JUST LEARNT THIS?” she captioned her video.

And the comments section was almost immediately filled with people admitting they’d also been blown away by the revelation.

“Never even thought about it but makes so much sense haha,” one wrote.

“Seriously, I never knew this and I’m 53,” another added.

“I was today years old learning this!! FML,” a third said.

“I’m 34 and you’ve just taught me,” someone else marvelled.

“It’s true when they say you learn something new every day!”

“I’m 38 and you have just taught me something,” another wrote.

“I’m 60 I had no idea,” someone else said.

Other abbreviations you may not have known

WHETHER or not you knew what the letters after 'first', 'second' and 'third' mean, there are some other abbreviations you might not be aware of. Here are five of them:

IMO – in my opinion

RSVP – stands for ‘Répondez s’il vous plait’ – and means ‘please reply’

FOMO – fear of missing out

AKA – also known as

ASAP – as soon as possible

“You just informed me and I’m 46 lol,” another laughed.

“Nope I didn’t know this either lol xxx,” someone else said.

Another described themselves as “clueless” while someone else was 60 and had only “just learned”.

“Hahahaa love that I’ve helped people today,” Chloe replied.

But there were other people who insisted they’d known the origin of the words for years.

“We were taught in primary schools to help us spell them,” one wrote.

“Well what else could it have been??? it was pretty obvious to me!” another boasted.

“I thought it was self explanatory lol,” a third commented.

As someone else wondered: “How does no one know this?”
