SAN RAFAEL
Suspect accused
of knife assault
A suspect allegedly swung a knife at a person who told him to leave a property in the Contempo Marin neighborhood. No injuries were reported.
Around 1:10 a.m. Friday, the suspect allegedly prowled outside a home and caused a disturbance on Isle Royal Court. A resident told him to leave but the suspect returned an hour later, San Rafael police Sgt. Justin Graham said. The resident confronted him again. Graham said the suspect took out a knife and missed the resident during an attempted assault.
Officers found the suspect outside the former movie theater on Smith Ranch Road, Graham said.
Eduardo Jesus Lara-Cach, 24, of San Rafael was booked into the county jail on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon and disorderly conduct. His bail amount was set at $50,000.
THE COUNTY
Advisories issued
over fires, smog
The National Weather Service has issued a “red flag” warning for Marin County due to concern about wildfires. The warning will go into effect from Monday night to 11 p.m. Tuesday.
Critical fire conditions include offshore wind gusts up to 40 mph and low relative humidity ranging from 15% to 40%, said Mari Ochoa, a spokesperson for the Marin County Fire Department. Marin’s fire agencies plan to boost their staffing, she said.
The Bay Area Air Quality Management District also issued a “spare the air” alert for Tuesday and asked residents to limit driving.
LARKSPUR
Crews shed light on
cause of store fire
A small fire broke out Monday in a Larkspur thrift store. The culprit? Sunlight that shone through a magnifying glass and ignited a book, said Central Marin fire Capt. Brian Peterson.
First responders were alerted around 8:30 a.m. Peterson said they found a light haze inside the store at 457 Magnolia Ave. and discovered an old paperback that was burned. He said that the fire was extinguished upon their arrival.
No structure damages or injuries were reported.
