Craftsmanship Meets Art in Paul Andrew’s Latest Shoe Campaign
Paul Andrew is readying for his next drop. For Season 5, the designer takes on texture. As seen in his latest campaign, boots are designed in waxed espresso brown alligator atop a tonal matte stacked heel, for example.
To further showcase the shoes, fine art objects and craftsmanship are used to highlight the artisanal aspects of the line with sensuous forms of glass artist Jochen Holz interpreting their shapes into curvaceous plexiglass heels.
Custom pieces from Holz, each hand-blown and finished in London in a range of textures and surreal shapes, make an appearance in the campaign.
Other statement looks include ankle boots and mules featured in soft calfskin with polished chrome heels, red pumps with a geometric heel. He also utilizes silver metal zippers within the collection — either asymmetrically spiraling around the shaft of a pointed-toe boot, as a decorative trim inside the welt of the sole, or embellishing the platform or upper edge of a shoe.
For his Season Five campaign ads, Andrew juxtaposes art and design as he was inspired by the surrealist imagery of de Chirico, Rosenquist and Rauchenberg. Model Alek Wek stars in the ads. Take a look.
