Haiti's gang violence has displaced 300,000 children, the UN says
The U.N. says criminal gang violence in Haiti has displaced more than 300,000 children since March. UNICEF said Tuesday that children are more than half of the nearly 580,000 people that have been internally displaced so far in the last four months. The spike in violence by armed gangs began in late February after a series of coordinated attacks that led Prime Minister Ariel Henry to resign. Criminal gangs control 80% of the capital and the key roads leading in and out of it. Many children are living in makeshift shelters and schools are in poor condition. The agency said children lacking access to food, health and hygiene may be forced to join the gangs to survive.
