SETTING spray doesn’t have to cost an arm and a leg according to one woman who makes it herself.
She said her setting spray requires just two ingredients and costs less than $15.
Redditor Gmwrnr shared her recipe in a comment on the social media platform.
She noted products that can be easily obtained at health-conscious grocery stores.
She also used a product that she specifically orders from the internet.
The DIYer said her setting spray doesn’t require too much of the ingredients.
HOW IT’S DONE
The Redditor listed how she creates the beauty staple.
“Glycerin you can find at any health food stores, and some grocery stores,” she said as her first ingredient.
Now Solutions Glycerin is sold for $5.80 on Amazon.
“Optiphen Plus will have to be ordered, though. I got mine from LotionCrafters and it’s $6.50,” she added.
“You only need a drop of it so it’ll last forever lol.
“I see you can also get it off Amazon but I don’t see anything cheaper than that.”
Optiphen Plus is available from Lotion Crafter and sold for $8.45.
The Redditor added an important detail when DIYing beauty products.
“No matter which one you make you need a preservative,” she said. “I use Optiphen Plus.
“Also, don’t try to mix oil and water like many of the [setting spray] recipes do.
“You need an emulsifier to do that.
“I just do water, rosewater, glycerin, [and] Optiphen Plus. I also store it in the fridge since a bottle lasts me so long.”
Other Redditors gave their two cents on making their own setting spray.
“If you’re using glycerin, you absolutely need a preservative and distilled water for every step of the process,” one said.
“Even if you’re just rinsing out an old spray bottle, don’t use tap water on anything without disinfecting after.
“And don’t store homemade liquids in the bathroom. Ideally, you would keep them refrigerated.
“I used to play around with DIY recipes, but now I just stick with the Mario Badescu Rosewater Spray, it’s less than $2 per ounce which is on par with homemade versions.”
