Man who confessed to killing 4 people, including parents, is sentenced to life in Maine

A man in Maine who confessed to killing his parents and two of their friends and wounding three people in a highway shooting has been sentenced to life in prison. Joseph Eaton pleaded guilty on Monday to murder and other charges. He previously had entered an insanity defense, but withdrew it late last year. Anguished family members of the victims gave emotional testimony before the sentencing, and Eaton apologized to them. The April 2023 crimes took place just days after Eaton had been released from a Maine prison on unrelated charges. Authorities say he also has a criminal history in Kansas and Florida.
