Report: Chelsea step up pursuit of Tottenham-linked striker
According to Sky Sports reporter Keith Downie, Chelsea have now had further contact with Newcastle United regarding a potential deal for rumoured Spurs target Alexander Isak.
Spurs are also interested in Alexander Isak
There has been plenty of speculation linking Isak with a move to Spurs all summer, with Football Insider stating just a little over two weeks ago that the Lilywhites view the 24-year-old as their ideal ‘marquee’ signing this summer.
The report suggested that the North London club would be prepared to make a ‘huge bid’ to test Newcastle’s resolve.
Chelsea have since also emerged as contenders for Isak’s signature, with Fabrizio Romano revealing last week that the Blues had enquired about the striker.
Contact intensifies between Chelsea and Newcastle
Downie has now taken to social media to state that the West London club have made further contact with the Magpies regarding the Swede.
He says that while Eddie Howe’s men do not want to let go of any of the big names, they might be forced to consider offers for Isak, given their PSR situation.
The journalist adds that so far Chelsea have only made a ‘tentative enquiry’ for the former Real Sociedad man, who Eddie Howe’s men value at upwards of £100m.
Spurs Web Opinion
The only way I can see Tottenham paying £100m for Isak is if they get £50m from Richarlison’s sale this summer, which looks quite unlikely to happen.
I expect Spurs to go for a relatively cheap option like Jonathan David to give some competition for the Brazilian striker.
