Biden campaign unveils ad arguing he can do the job amid calls to drop out

President Biden’s reelection campaign unveiled an ad on Monday that highlights his argument that he’s up for another four years in office, amid ongoing calls for him to drop out of the 2024 race.

The one-minute ad, entitled “I Know,” is part of the many attempts by Biden and his campaign to tamp down concerns over his debate performance last week.

It opens with a shot of former President Trump at the debate Thursday and then includes a clip from Biden during a campaign rally on Friday, during which he delivered a more energetic speech, compared to the debate, that acknowledged some of his shortcomings.

“I know I’m not a young man, but I know how to do this job. I know right from wrong, I know how to tell the truth. And I know, like millions of Americans know, when you get knocked down, you get back up,” Biden said in Raleigh.

The ad also focuses on Biden claiming Trump lied repeatedly during the debate, and especially hit Trump on the riots at the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021.

It showed clips of Trump speaking in Washington, D.C., that day and images of police responding to the rioters that day.

In the days after the debate, the White House and Biden have stressed that he has no intention of dropping out of the race, while Democratic lawmakers generally signaled support for him continuing to serve.

Biden’s poor debate performance sparked talk among some Democratic lawmakers and operatives over whether he should step aside. Additionally, some of his former aides and supportive allies acknowledged it was not a good performance.
