The Point God is heading to Texas.

After the Golden State Warriors waived him, Chris Paul is set to join the San Antonio Spurs, pairing him with Victor Wembanyama and setting Paul up to be a mentor to incoming rookie point guard Stephon Castle.

Per Chris Haynes of TNT:

Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN provided additional details in terms of the length and amount of Paul’s contract: a one-year deal worth $11 million-plus.

Paul is set to leave the Warriors after playing 58 games and averaging 26.4 minutes for them last season. He averaged 9.2 points, 3.9 rebounds, and 6.8 assists, while putting up a 44/37/83 shooting split.

While he has been a declining player on both ends of the floor, Paul is still crafty and savvy enough to make a potential pairing with Wembanyama an enticing one, especially in the pick-and-roll. Defensively, Paul’s weaknesses can be covered up by Wembanyama, who is already one of the league’s best defenders heading into his second season and who was selected to be a member of the All-Defensive First Team as a rookie.
