Tottenham’s Micky Van de Ven has struggled for game time at Euro 2024, but it appears the Netherlands supporters want to see much more of him on the pitch.
Micky Van de Ven struggling for starts at Euro 2024
Although the Netherlands were earmarked as one of the outside favourites to go deep into the European Championships taking place in Germany this summer, they just about clawed their way out of their group, leaking four goals even with Virgil Van Dijk in the heart of defence.
A reason for Koeman’s Dutch side not being able to make a strong impression in the tournament so far may be the team’s inability to prevent chances as well as progressing the ball from the back to the team’s skilful forward line, which is the nation has been heard calling for Mick Van De Ven.
Van De Ven, who was awarded Tottenham’s fan player of the season, is only featuring off of the bench for the Netherlands, experiencing merely 28 minutes for his country so far.

BBC’s commentator, Jonathan Pearce, remarked upon ‘the Dutch fans singing the name of Van de Ven’, with the supporters seemingly hinting that they want to see more of the Spurs star.
The 64-year-old continued by questioning ‘he will surely be earning far more than his three qualifying caps that he has so far’. Van De Ven made his senior international debut in October after the Dutchman’s impressive start to life in North London.
Micky’s Netherlands will face Romania who have of course been inspired by the impressive performances by fellow Tottenham centre-back, Radu Dragusin.
It remains to be seen if Koeman will respond to the Netherlands fan’s demands or whether he will seek continuity for the rest of his side’s run in the tournament.

It is bewildering that after such an impressive debut Premier League season that Ronald Koeman hasn’t opted for Van De Ven to be part of his backline, with him and Van De Ven in theory offering an incredible amount of pace and power as well as defensive prowess.
Van De Ven must be thinking after the fans’ support and his team’s leaky defence against Austria that he will be in line for an international start sooner or later, that is, of course, dependent on how long his country can remain at the tournament in Germany.
