GREECE: In May, San Jose residents Janis Gerlinger and her friend Nancy Pavlak took an Adriatic cruise from Istanbul to Venice in early May that included stops in Turkey, Greece, Montenegro, Croatia and Italy. The Viking “Ancient Treasures of the Adriatic” itinerary included the ancient cites of Troy and Ephesus in what is now Turkey and Corinth and Olympia — where Janis posed for a photo — in Greece.
TRAVEL TIPS: “Be prepared for extensive walking and lots of steps,” she says. “Many of the oldest sites have slippery granite and marble floors and walkways, so walking sticks and good nonslip walking shoes are a must. As always, Viking provided excellent excursions and very knowledgeable guides.”
