A man has been charged with drink-driving after a four-year-old boy was hit by a car.

The boy, who was struck in Cranmer Street, Leicester, at 12.38pm yesterday, was taken to hospital with injuries not believed to be life-threatening.

Karoly Obreclan, 62, of nearby Luther Street, has been charged with driving under the influence of alcohol, reports Leicestershire Live.

He is set to appear at Leicester Magistrates’ Court on July 15.

Police cornered off Cranmer Street at the junction with Hinckley Road following the collision.

A passer-by, who wished to remain anonymous, said: ‘I was waiting to turn into Cranmer Street, where I live, when I heard a ton of sirens, and then an ambulance and lots of police cars seemed to come out of nowhere and go up the street.

‘They stopped about a third of the way up. And then police officers taped off the end of the street, at the junction with Hinckley Road.

‘The ambulance has gone now, but the street is still taped off and coppers are looking closely at the road surface and taking pictures of things.

‘They’ve sprayed red paint on the road, and are looking really closely at one of the cars parked in the street.’
