East team wins Kansas Shrine Bowl, Washburn commit wins West MVP
EMPORIA (KSNT) - The 51st annual Kansas Shrine Bowl saw the East team get revenge for the previous summer's result.
In 2023, the West team won a nail-biter with a 21-20 result. This time, the East team won 36-25.
Clay Center graduate and Washburn University commit Brody Hayes won MVP for the West team. Blue Valley Southwest graduate Dylan Dunn won, a BYU commit, won East MVP.
The West team got on the board first with a field goal to go up 3-0 in the first quarter but it was all East the rest of the first half. Touchdowns from Lyndon's Tanner Heckel, K-State commit Bryce Noernberg from Olathe South and Eudora's Adrion Seals helped boost that East squad to a 20-3 halftime lead.
Hayes scored a touchdown for the West team early in the second half. Another future Wildcat, Cheney's Jackson Voth, provided an answer later for the East team with a touchdown of his own.
The East team took a safety late with the game locked up in the final minute.
