I felt rushed naming my daughter & now I hate it – it sounds odd to say, I want to change it to something ‘prettier’

A NEW mom is feeling mad over the moniker she chose for her newborn daughter.

She might love her new bundle of joy, but she isn’t as enamored with her name.

WHAT’S IN A NAME

The mom, Plutarchandpoppies, shared her feelings on a What to Expect forum.

“I take full responsibility for picking my daughter’s name. However, I could not settle on a final name after she was born,” she said.

“I was rushed and I wish I had asked for more time. I ended up choosing Heidi, and to be quite honest I hate it now,” she continued.

“I was so afraid to admit it earlier on.”

As more time passed, however, she only grew to regret the name even more.

“I wish I had given her a prettier – in my opinion – name. It felt odd to say her name and hear it,” she said.

“I really don’t like the way it sounds. I know that I don’t want to keep calling her Heidi.”

She shared how her husband and even family and friends are supportive of the decision to change the little one’s name.

And this time around, she’s taking her time.

NEW MONIKER

Her new favorite names at one point were Emily and Hannah.

“Really Emily is my favorite but I’m nervous about making the wrong choice again. This is my second daughter so I feel that makes it difficult too,” she said.

“My first daughter’s name is Clara and I love it.”

She also wanted to clarify her change of heart.

“I do think that Heidi is a good name and there are so many wonderful Heidi’s out there!” she said.

“Honestly, some of those wonderful Heidi’s played a part in me originally choosing that name. But it just doesn’t feel like the right fit for my daughter,” she continued.

She finally revealed the new name and doesn’t think she’ll have any regrets.

“Emily Mae is what we’re going to go with! Mae is after my great-grandmother who I spent a lot of time with when I was young and loved dearly,” she said.

IN THE SAME BABY NAMING BOAT

Other users also weighed in on the matter revolving around the moniker.

“I went through this and changed my daughter’s name!” said one user.

“A few thoughts. Postpartum anxiety and depression can really play a factor here. Even after I changed her name, I didn’t feel 100% settled. Google name regret. It’s a pretty common thing,” she added.

“You have two beautiful options. Know there’s not going to be a perfect choice!

“Give yourself time if you need it. Call her the new name you choose for her for a few days, even weeks, before reintroducing her to the world.”

“I get this! We changed our daughter’s first name and I really debated giving her a name after my mother-in-law but I didn’t feel connected to it and I went back and forth so much,” said another.

“I get it, naming is so, so hard! But from my experience, I stopped fretting over it once I figured out the right fit for my daughter,” she continued.
