Scottish redhead who has the ‘trifecta of sunburn’ reveals her go-to cure for soothing red, inflamed skin overnight

One ginger-haired Redditor prone to peeling has shared her cheap and easy trick for helping soothe inflamed skin.

Redditor Madiechan certainly had enough experience to know what worked on skin that is especially sensitive to the sun.

Her easy cure was also inexpensive.

“Pale redhead Scottish person here – I have the trifecta of sunburn,” she said.

You might even have her holy grail product sitting in your refrigerator.

“I swear by yogurt. Put some on about 30 minutes before bed, let it dry, and then shower in the morning,” she said.

“Your pain will be gone, the redness soothed, and your skin nice and soft,” she continued.

The lactic acid in Greek yogurt can work as an anti-inflammatory, according to The Joint Chiropractic.

Simply leave it on for 15 minutes and then watch – and feel – the redness disappear.

Others shared their own skin-saving tips.

“I’m a very pale blonde. I remember having a bathing suit being cut off me when I was a kid. Vinegar was the method my grandma used with me as well,” said one Redditor.

“Aloe Vera works perfectly,” wrote another user.

“Shaving cream,” a user commented.

I take an extremely hot shower – seems to take the burn away. Works for me every time,” said a reader.

It seemed that yogurt wasn’t the only food remedy desperate sunbathers had discovered.

“Rub tomato on it every time it feels painful. I did this when I was sunburnt and my sunburn cleared extremely quickly,” said one Redditor.

“Don’t laugh but Aerosol Whipped Cream. Something about the dairy,” yet another chimed in.

How yogurt helps soothe a sunburn

Yogurt is proven to help relieve the pain and symptoms resulting from sunburn, according to The Joint Chiropractic.

  • The lactic acid in Greek yogurt is a great anti-inflammatory. It can be used to soothe your sunburned skin and moisturize it.
  • Applying Greek yogurt to your skin reduces redness and decreases the sensitivity in your skin to help usher in pain relief.
  • Apply plain Greek yogurt and leave it on for 15 minutes, then rinse away.

The U.S. Sun shared the story of one Redditor who swore by an old wives’ tale for soothing sunburned skin.

After suffering from a bad burn, they remembered how a black tea compress was said to help heal scrapes and cuts.

“I brewed some really strong black tea,” they said.

“Three bags to half a cup of water – and soaked some paper towels – and left them on my skin for a few hours, and oh goodness, my skin has changed from almost purple to light pink,” they continued.
