06/29/2024: Wet & Windy Today, Sct'd Storms Sunday

0

The Latest Storm Tracker Forecast from Meteorologist Kevin Appleby:

Keep those umbrellas handy today as intermittent periods of rain are on tap. Hold them tightly too - winds could gust as high as 40 MPH this afternoon. A warm front will lift through the region by Sunday, a day that will be warmer & more humid and feature scattered storms.

It won't be raining from start to finish Saturday, but we expect several waves of showers and steadier rains to move through the region.

This will likely keep temperatures in check on the cooler side - but a few breaks of sun may briefly push temperatures into the 70s.

Temperatures will hardly drop - if they drop at all - overnight. A push of warmer and more humid air moves in, keeping temperatures in the upper 60s to around 70. Winds won't be quite as gusty overnight, but we may still see gusts up to around 30 MPH into Sunday morning.

Sunday will be hotter and more humid, but will also feature a good deal of dry time. That said, we need to watch out for an intensifying line or broken line of thunderstorms that will develop. These storms will be stronger & more widespread if we see enough sunshine tomorrow morning, which would in turn destabilize the atmosphere.

Temperatures should climb into the low to mid 80s for most. Any leftover storms will subside Sunday evening.

Calmer, drier weather is in store for the start of next week. Aside from a bit of a breeze, Monday looks largely dry (just a stray shower possible) with low humidity levels and increasing sunshine. Temperatures will top out in the 70s. Tuesday will feature another chilly start (could rival yesterday morning!), but by the afternoon we expect temperatures to soar into the low to mid 80s.

Even warmer weather builds for the final three days of our forecast, with upper 80s coinciding with an uptick in humidity. We will closely monitor thunderstorm chances for the 4th of July holiday - for now the potential is there for a few storms - but no washouts are expected.
