Tranquil
Tranquil is a minimalist home located in Beijing, China, designed by SSY Design Studio. The owners, a couple who met and studied abroad, wanted their home to reflect their serene lifestyle. Both from well-educated backgrounds, they desired a space where they could return to a quiet environment, practice calligraphy, read, and watch movies together. Upon entering, visitors are greeted by an ancient table lamp that illuminates the entire entrance area, setting a welcoming tone. A grille feature adds layers to the space, hinting at more to explore beyond the entrance. Turning left, one finds the living room, furnished with cotton and linen sofas, a quaint coffee table, a wooden desk, and classical screens. This area exudes tranquility, offering a peaceful retreat from the outside world.
The residence includes two study rooms. The open study room, located in the living room, ensures that the hostess, who spends most of her time at home, isn’t isolated. Here, she can practice calligraphy with the company of her pet or listen to music. An open kitchen and integrated dining area maximize the available space. The inclusion of an island enhances the functionality and livability of the space, making it a central hub for daily activities. The dining room, with a clear view of the entrance hall and living room, is devoid of unnecessary decorations, maintaining a clean and bright ambiance. Large windows connect the indoor space with the lush greenery outside, bringing nature into the home. The bedroom is designed with ample natural light, balanced by warm wood veneer and artistic paint, creating a soft and inviting atmosphere.
