Iranian election ballot box transport vehicle attacked
Iranian media reported that two police officers were killed and five others injured in an armed attack on a vehicle transporting election ballot boxes for the presidential elections in the country.
According to IRNA, the incident occurred at 6 AM local time on Saturday in the Rask district of Sistan and Baluchestan province.
So far, no individual or group has claimed responsibility for the attack.
The shooting took place as the vehicle carrying the ballot boxes was en route to the provincial command center after the voting had concluded.
Meanwhile, initial election results in Iran have announced Masoud Pezeshkian is leading with the highest number of votes.
The 14th presidential election in Iran, with 40% of the population participating, began at 8 AM yesterday and continued until midnight.
According to official statistics, Pezeshkian received approximately 10.4 million votes, while Jalili secured around 9.4 million votes.
Iran’s Election Headquarters has declared the presidential election will proceed to a second round.
The Election Headquarters spokesperson stated that a total of 24,535,185 votes were cast in the election.
