I was on Love Island this year – here’s how long you can vape outside villa and strict rule bosses won’t let you break
LOVE Island’s Munveer Jabbal has opened up about his time in the villa – including strict rules the smoking islanders had to live by.
While a lot of the islanders smoke or vape, they’re not allowed to do so within the confines of the villa as ITV no longer permits it to air.
The Love Island smoking ban has been in place since 2018, after fans complained about how often the islanders were seen doing it, worried that it could promote the habit to impressionable younger viewers.
As a result, everyone has to take turns to sneak off for a cheeky ciggy or vape.
Taking to TikTok after being dumped from this year’s villa, Munveer answered in-depth questions about the show.
When it comes to smoking/vaping rules, Munveer said: “I don’t get the fascination with that. A lot of you guys are very curious about the vaping.
“Yes, you were allowed to smoke, vape. You are only allowed to do it one at a time, for obvious reasons.
“You’re not allowed to converse. The cameras were off or not rolling when you’re outside the front of the villa.”
“I don’t smoke or vape so I never did that, but yeah you are allowed and you have a small amount of time, I’d say… 20 minutes.” he added.
When Munveer arrived on the show as one of the original cast mates of 2024, he seemed to be held quickly in high regard.
Based on first impressions alone, he was voted by the girls as the boy who appeared to be “best boyfriend material” in a ranking.
However, despite this, he failed to find any romantic connections with any of the girls, causing him to fall back and not have much screen time.
Fans even called out the show for Munveer “disappearing” from screens, or joking he was “enjoying a free holiday”.
On June 13, Munveer was dumped from the island alongside Patsy Field after a brutal twist that saw him eliminated by his fellow islanders.
He later said of his experience: “I did go there to find love but unfortunately it didn’t happen. That’s fine.
“I am just feeling excited for what happens next and above all, thank you for all the comments, it means so much to me. Very kind words which make me feel so much better about myself.”

Love Island smoking rules
Early seasons of the hit ITV2 dating show saw islanders smoking on the screen, but from the 2019 series onwards this stopped, and the contestants have been given a designated smoking area instead.
Islanders can smoke and vape but they’ll do so away from the cameras and they aren’t allowed to gather in large groups to discourage social smoking.
Laura Anderson, who appeared on the show in 2018, said the allowance at the time was: “5 for social smokers, 10 if daily smoker. It might have changed. When you finish that’s it.”
While Sharon Gaffka, from 2021, revealed: “If you wanted a cigarette you would have to say into your microphone ‘I really want to go for a cigarette’.
“They’d say, ‘OK, we’ll get someone from production to supervise you and it’ll take place outside the front door somewhere’.”
