‘Super cool’ modern classic sports car that has ‘cult following’ can now be yours for just £6,000
A MOTORING expert has urged petrolheads looking for a “super cool” sports car that’s become a cult favourite to consider the Fiat Coupe.
Dubbed “the poor man’s Ferrari” thanks to its sporty looks and Italian flavour, the Coupe has become something of a future classic – but it can still be found for a relatively low price.
In a video posted to YouTube for his channel Cars With JB, car guru Jonny Brighton suggested the Italian motor is “a car with a pretty massive cult following that definitely has some real classic potential too.”
He added: “It’s often given names like the poor man’s Ferrari.”
Produced between 1993 and 2000 and arriving in the UK in 1995, the iconic Fiat is particularly loved for its looks – thanks to a combination of its Chris Bangle-designed exterior and Pininfarina-designed interior which Jonny said “merges together to make something super cool.”
It packs some power too, with its lowest spec example – the 1.8-litre 16V – capable of hitting 127 mph, while the 2.0-litre 20V Turbo can fetch an eye-watering 155 mph thanks to its 162 bhp.
Jonny added: “It sounds like a baby V10 with the right exhaust.”
Becoming “increasingly cherished these days,” the Coupe can be picked up for as little as £6,000 – although Jonny said £15,000 could get you a very nice 1998-example with around 50,000 miles on the clock.
Modern classics expert James Russell of The Motor Grid has previously spoken up the Coupe in a chat with Sun Motors.
He even suggested drivers should keep a special eye out for the Limited Edition model – with only around 300 bought in the UK from July 1998.
James said: “For me it is absolutely magnificent, and is hugely underappreciated.”
This comes as Matas Buzelis, a car expert at carVertical, picked out a selection of classic cars that could rise in value in the near future.
Speaking to Sun Motors, Matas said: “Classic cars are like vintage wine and fine art, they tend to get better with age, but the trick when it comes to investing is knowing what to look for.
“A savvy buyer who picks the right make and model can double their money, but not all classic cars make good investments.”
