Deportation of 264 Afghan families from Iran and Pakistan in one day

Officials at the Ministry of Refugees and Repatriations state that 246 families were deported from Pakistan and Iran overnight.

According to Bakhtar News Agency today, the deportees entered the country through Spin Boldak in Kandahar province and Islam Qala in Herat province.

Reports indicate that through Torghundi, 71 families returned via Spin Boldak in Kandahar, 55 through the Nimroz border crossing, and 82 through Islam Qala in Herat.

Meanwhile, despite international reactions, the expulsion of Afghan migrants from Iran and Pakistan continues unabated.

Recently, Munir Akram, Pakistan’s permanent representative to the United Nations, reiterated concerns over the “illegal” deportation of migrants from his country and expressed hope that another 1.5 million registered Afghan migrants would also be returned to their homeland.

Amidst the forced repatriation of Afghan refugees, the humanitarian situation has worsened significantly due to inadequate facilities and resources. Many returnees face dire conditions upon arrival, lacking basic amenities such as shelter, clean water, and healthcare.

The influx of deportees strains local communities already grappling with limited capacity to support such large numbers, exacerbating an already fragile humanitarian crisis in Afghanistan.

Khawaja Asif, Pakistan’s Defense Minister, has staunchly defended the policy prohibiting travel without passports and visas across the border with Afghanistan.

He argues that strict border controls are necessary to curb terrorism and illegal activities, emphasizing the need to prioritize national security. Asif’s remarks underscore Pakistan’s firm stance on border management amid heightened regional security concerns and ongoing efforts to prevent cross-border threats from escalating further.
