Olympic trials begin for USA women's gymnastics

INDIANAPOLIS, Minnesota -- Simone Biles and other stars of U.S.A. Gymnastics competed on Friday night -- night one of the Olympic trials for the women ahead of Paris 2024.

KXAN's Jala Washington reported from Minneapolis surrounded by lots of excited people attending.

Some people sat outside of the venue's entrance waiting for the event. Simon Biles is the most dominant gymnast of all time. Other big names we watched out for Friday were Suni Lee, the 2020 Tokyo all-around gold medalist, Biles' teammate, Jordan Chiles -- also a 2020 Tokyo Olympian -- Shilese Jones, a rising star and Kayla Dicello -- also a standout for USAG this season.

"Lots of history in this gym. That's going to happen today, some great gymnastics and we all have our top five that we want our top four on the team, but it could really go to anybody," said one fan outside the venue.

While watching the girls practice these past couple of days, Washington said they all seemed to be in a really good head space.

Shockingly, though, another favorite for Team USA, Skye Blakely, was wheeled out of podium training on Wednesday night after rupturing her Achilles. She posted about it saying she was devastated, because she was not expecting her Olympic trials to end this way.

Trials began at 6:30 p.m. Friday.
