Enid teenager charged with murder for deadly crash after police chase

A 14-year-old has been charged with murder after a police chase in Enid began over a reportedly stolen vehicle and ended with a crash that killed one 85-year-old man and injured four teenagers on Thursday morning.

ENID, Okla. (KFOR) — A 14-year-old has been charged with murder after a police chase in Enid began over a reportedly stolen vehicle and ended with a crash that killed one 85-year-old man and injured four teenagers on Thursday morning.

According to the Enid Police Department, officers received a report of a stolen vehicle, a 2019 Nissan Frontier, early Thursday morning. At around 9:32 a.m., an officer spotted a vehicle matching the description near Jefferson Street and Willow Road.

The officer attempted to pull the truck over, but the driver of the Frontier sped off. While trying to catch up, the officer lost sight of the truck near the Garfield County Fairgrounds on Washington Street.

A short time after, Enid Police say officers found the same vehicle involved in a crash at 4th Street and Purdue Avenue. Officers at the scene determined the driver of the Frontier likely ran the eastbound stop sign and struck a southbound Lincoln Continental at a high rate of speed, resulting in the southbound driver's death.

In a report sent on Thursday night, Oklahoma Highway Patrol identified the driver who was killed in the crash as 85-year-old Francis L. Boyle from Burlington, Okla.

The occupants of the Frontier—a 14-year-old driver, two 15-year-old passengers and a 16-year-old passenger—were all taken to the hospital after the crash.

According to court records, the 14-year-old Ayden Johanson, the alleged driver of the stolen truck, has been charged with first-degree murder and unauthorized use of a vehicle.
