Report: Spurs and Man United scouts watch EUROs game to keep an eye on winger
Journalist reveals that both Tottenham and Manchester United ‘will continue to watch’ Turkish 24-year-old after an impressive display.
Tottenham want more attackers this summer
As Football.London reported when Postecoglou was asked about needing attacking reinforcements for the upcoming season the Australian confirmed ‘Yeah, absolutely. It’s not secret’, admitting ‘we’re fairly light in that area’.
It’s with little surprise therefore that Timo Werner has already been announced to be rejoining Spurs on loan with plenty of other strikers and wingers linked.
The latest rumour is from Turkey where journalist, Uğur Karakullukçu claimed both Manchester United and Tottenham attended Czechia v Turkey to ‘watch’ Galatasaray winger, Baris Alper Yilmaz. (Haber Sarikirmizi)
Spurs and Man United both scout Yilmaz
Karakullukçu continued to explain that he ‘had it confirmed’ that both Manchester United and Tottenham went to watch Yilmaz in a game where his nation ran out as 2-1 victors in a feisty affair.
The winger, who can also play more centrally, had two shots, won an impressive ten duels and drew four fouls for Turkey. (FotMob)
The performance, much like his in other games of the tournament, was impressive, with the Turkish report explaining the performance was good enough to cause both teams scouts to ‘continue to watch’.
If either team has serious intentions of signing Yilmaz however, they may have to move swiftly with another Turkish media outlet, Dirilis Potasi, reporting that Brighton has made ‘an offer of 20 million euros for the player’.
The report also states that Galatasaray has ‘an expectation of 25 million euros’ but are clearly preparing for his exit, stating that Gökdeniz Bayraktar is ‘expected’ to join as the ‘alternative’ to Yilmaz.
Spurs Web Opinion
Although Yilmaz has been impressive so far at the start of EURO 2024, it is always a big risk to purchase a player based on a competition that, realistically, he will play four or five games, two of which have been against Georgia and Czechia.
There are other links for higher profile, younger and less risky signings which if I were Daniel Levy, Johan Lange or Ange Postecoglou, I’d be seeking to do before signing Yilmaz right now.
