Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif is set to embark on a two-day official visit to Tajikistan on Tuesday, July 1st.

Tajikistan’s media reported that this visit comes at the invitation of President Emomali Rahman.

According to Tajikistan’s media report, Shehbaz Sharif will meet with President Rahmon and other Tajik officials on Tuesday.

This comes after President Rahmon, in a phone call on Wednesday, discussed the expansion of bilateral relations with Shehbaz Sharif and his upcoming visit with him.

Ahead of Shehbaz Sharif’s visit to Tajikistan, direct Islamabad-Dushanbe flights commenced on Thursday, June 27th, operated weekly by Saman Air.

It appears that one of the purposes of Shehbaz Sharif’s visit to Tajikistan will be to discuss the situation in Afghanistan.

Tajikistan and Pakistan are deeply concerned about Afghanistan’s situation. Central Asian countries, including Tajikistan, stress urgent action on border security and preventing extremists from Afghanistan.

Recently, Tajikistan’s parliamentary leader emphasized at a meeting of the CIS Parliament Speakers that Afghanistan has turned into a refuge for international terrorists.

Pakistani authorities continually assert that Afghan soil is used against regional countries. They claim that TTP provocations against Pakistan are orchestrated from Afghan soil, targeting Pakistani military personnel and even Chinese engineers.

Meanwhile, recent reports indicate heightened ISIS activities in the region, raising alarm among neighbouring countries.

The escalating insecurity due to ISIS activities has prompted significant concerns among regional actors about stability and security.
