My ‘greige’ neighbours are threatening a lawsuit over my pink house – they said it looks ‘horrific’ but I love it
A WOMAN has revealed her neighbours are “threatening a lawsuit” over the fact she’s painted her house pink.
Kate explained that she wanted to give her home a splash of colour by painting the outside a beautiful shade of Barbie pink.
However, while she thought it would come out looking stunning, her neighbours were less than impressed.
Taking to TikTok to share a video of the house while it was being painted, writing over the top: “Painting my house pink because I think it will be beautiful.”
Kate then added that other people on her road do not approve of the eye-catching new hue.
“The neighbours are big mad,” she wrote.
“They said it looks ‘horrific’!
“I think that’s so silly!”
She also wrote in the caption: “My neighbours are threating a lawsuit over my pink house, because their greige minds can’t comprehend a little pop of colour!”
People were quick to weigh in on the debate in the comments section, with one writing: “Why do people think they have a right to dictate what your house looks like?”
“I would be sooo excited if a pink house popped up in my neighbourhood,” another insisted.
“Why even be alive if you’re gonna be miserable towards everyone lol?” a third said.
“What a boringly pathetic life you live to actually be mad at a house colour,” someone else raged.
“Get a hobby maybe? Some interests that don’t include control issues!”
“If they’re not paying my mortgage they don’t have a say,” another commented.
“Value is a matter of opinion,” someone else said.
“I’d pay more to live in a colourful neighborhood vs an ugly neutral cookie cutter one which has no value to me.
“So people will still pay for houses like this.”
“We painted our front door pink and a neighbour told me our house looked like a brothel,” another recalled.
Home upgrades that add the most value to a house
The best renovation to add value totally depends on your property, the local market and your potential buyers.
Zoopla shared a list of upgrades that will instantly add value to your home.
- Loft conversion – increase of 15%
- Off-street parking – adds £50,000 to property price
- New kitchen – increase of 15%
- Garage conversion – increase of 15%
- Cellar or basement conversion – increase of 10-15%
- Open plan living space – increase of 3-5%
- New bathroom – increase of 3-5%
But others insisted they would also take issue with the pink house colour.
“When you do something like that, it affects the value of the homes around you,” one said.
“I’d be mad if my neighbour painted their house bright pink also,” another agreed.
“I don’t like it either BUT it is your house and you can do as you please. I respect that,” a third commented.
“Do I like it? No, not really,” someone else sighed.
“It’s also not my house, so I don’t care.
“I don’t know why people are so invested in what their neighbour’s homes look like!”
But Kate isn’t paying attention, and is thrilled with how it’s turning out[/caption]
