State power authority opens new EV charging stations

ALBANY, N.Y. (NEWS10)-- The New York State Power Authority expanded Electric Vehicle (EV) charging stations in the Capital District and Adirondack Park for the summer. The charging stations are located just off Exit 29 on the Northway and four miles east of downtown Albany.

One of the new charging stations is at the seasonal trading post and cafe, Frontier Town Gateway. The North Hudson EVolve NY station has four chargers with eight Tesla ports and is the largest EV charging station between Albany and Canada.

The second EVolve NY charging site is in the Shoppes At Greenbush Commons in Rensselaer and has six dispensers. New York Power Authority said the stations not only encourage EV adoption but also reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

Soon, construction will begin for an additional four-charger site in Albany Parking Authority Lot 3 on Washington Avenue. Until the new site's completion, a fully operational four-charger site will be located in Quackenbush garage in downtown Albany.

New York State Department of Transportation Commissioner Marie Therese Dominguez said the department is committed to the state's investment in cleaner and greener transportation infrastructure. "Through our joint efforts under the National Electric Vehicle Infrastructure Program, we are helping to create a network of conveniently located fast charging stations like these in North Hudson that will make traveling by electric vehicle easier, safer and more reliable," Dominguez said.
