TESCOM INDUCTS NEWLY RECRUITED POST-PRIMARY SCHOOL TEACHERS

The Lagos State Teaching Service Commission (TESCOM) in collaboration with Nurture House Consulting, recently inducted 1000 newly recruited teachers into the Post Primary School across the State. 

The induction programme which was held simultaneously at Bolade in Oshodi, Owutu in Ikorodu and Lagos Chambers of Commerce and Industry (LCCI) in Ikeja had in attendance the Chairman and Members of the TESCOM, Permanent Secretary and Directors of the Commission.

Declaring the induction programme, themed: “Empowering Educators for Outstanding Learner Performance” opened, the Chairman, Lagos State Teaching Service Commission (TESCOM), Mrs. Victoria Mopelola Peregrino congratulated the inductees on their appointment into the Teaching Service of Lagos State.

According to the Chairman, “The induction is to provide you the opportunity to be integrated and equipped with requisite skills that will not only take you through your new career paths but will, more importantly, turn you into resourceful individuals, who will, in the years ahead, contribute meaningfully to the progress of education in the State”.

The Chairman said that teachers should be conscious of the fact that they are nurturers, creators, and destiny builders who are catalysts in determining the future of our dear country, Nigeria, through noble professions.

“It will interest you to know that you can not risk resting on your oars, as there is so much work to be done. The engagement of your students and other Stakeholders shows concern for their well-being in and out of School, their social life, and emotional stability, which must all be synchronised for better performance and desired outcomes”, she stated.

Earlier, the Permanent Secretary, Lagos State Teaching Service Commission, Mrs. Iyana Seriki-Bello said teachers lay a foundation for success, they are mind builders who mould and shape the lives of students beamed to be future leaders. Great Teachers make memories and assist students to think and attain goals.

According to Seriki-Bello, “As teachers, for you to achieve your onerous responsibilities, you must be passionate about the profession. We need Teachers by choice and not by force. Teachers must possess the ability to adapt to changing situations and be technologically savvy. With technology, you can think locally and act globally. Remember also, you must be able to communicate effectively”.

In their remarks, Commissioner II and IV in the Lagos State Teaching Service Commission, Mr. Abiodun Bamigboye and Mrs. Abimbola Adeola Idowu, respectively said when they started as teachers there was nothing like an induction programme, adding that the training was designed to expose and guide the participants on what is expected of them as teachers.

While maintaining that with the induction programme, the participants have been effectively insulated against anything that would make them fail, they advised the inductees to study the induction training manual very well to be rightly guided and follow the right part in the profession.
