AUSTIN (ABJ) — Taylor's effort to revitalize its downtown ahead of Samsung Electronics Co. Ltd.'s factory opening took another step this week as the city's economic development agency approved up to $70,000 in grants to expand an existing business and revitalize a long-shuttered theater.
The Taylor Economic Development Corp. approved the payments upon receipt of work that will help expand Jeff's Resurrections LLC, which for more than 30 years has restored old and classic cars and operates at 106 Porter St., as well as redevelopment of The Howard Theatre that originally opened about 100 years ago and has been closed since 2021.
The moves build on a number of efforts, including the completed refurbishment of the McCrory Timmerman and Titsworth buildings and a pair of revitalization projects that will bring space for retailers, hotels, apartments and more to the city about 35 miles northeast of Austin and its population of around 17,300 people.
