ALDI chocolate chip muffins recalled nationwide

0

(WKBN) -- Some chocolate chip muffins sold at ALDI stores have been recalled nationwide.

The Food & Drug Administration announced that FGF Brands Inc. of Toronto, Ontario, Canada, is recalling 11,830 cases of its ALDI - Bakeshop Chocolate Chip Muffin (four-count), which may contain undeclared walnuts.

People allergic to walnuts could experience a serious or life-threatening reaction from eating the muffins.

The recall was issued after muffins made with walnuts were distributed in packaging that did not specify that walnuts were in them. An investigation found that the problem was caused by "a temporary breakdown" in the production and packaging processes, according to the FDA.

The FDA said "no illnesses or adverse effects" have been reported so far.

The recalled muffins come in a clear plastic clamshell and have a red label, according to the FDA. The affected product is marked with lot No. NF1 142Y on the top of the container and UPC 4099100048278 on the label.

Production of the muffins has been suspended until the problem is resolved, the FDA said.

Consumers who have purchased the four-count muffin package are encouraged to return it to the place of purchase for a full refund. If you have any questions, contact FGF Brands Inc. at customercare@fgfbrands.com.
