LAKE PLACID, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- The "Harriet Tubman - Beacon of Hope" will be unveiled at John Brown Farm State Historic Site in Lake Placid on Friday, July 5. The 13-foot bronze monument will be on display at the location until Monday, September 30.

"Beacon of Hope," created by Wesley Wofford, depicts Tubman's journey leading to her being a symbol of freedom. The sculpture is being displayed at different sites throughout the country.

The unveiling ceremony will be held by John Brown Lives!, a nonprofit freedom education and human rights organization. The ceremony is open to the public and begins at 2 p.m.

According to New York State Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation, ringing bells will start a year-long initiative of the Underground Railroad Consortium of New York State to raise awareness of the bicentennial in 2027 of the "official end" of slavery in New York in 1827.
