To the editor: Tax higher incomes to save Social Security

A slowly approaching retirement disaster which can easily be avoided is being ignored. While we are being warned that there will be a shortfall in the Social Security Trust Fund, a plurality of older Americans, 40.2 percent, only receive income from Social Security. If the fund is depleted, payments will be reduced, causing hardships for all Social Security recipients but especially for that 40.2 percent.
