Broussard ranked 8th safest city in Louisiana
BROUSSARD, La. (KLFY) – Broussard is the 8th safest city in Louisiana according to a study.
Broussard made the top 10 list for the third year in a row. "It just helps us on our journey to be the best city we can be," Mayor Ray Bourque said.
The violent crime rate in Louisiana is 67% higher than the national average, according to FBI crime data. Broussard Assistant Police Chief Tony Ashy said Broussard is safe because of its citizens. “It's our people, you know. It's every officer. It's from the mayor's office to the council to the citizens," Bourque said.
Ashy said the Broussard Police Department's daily neighborhood patrols help to keep the crime low. “I think we’re not blind to anything, and we try to stay vigilant," Ashy said.
The mayor credits Broussard's achievement to the leadership and professionalism of the police department and the city council's support of the police department. “We work with intention in Broussard to be a clean city, a safe city, all of the above-to have the right people working for us and to set a good example in leadership," Bourque said. "So I'm always surprised, but I know we're working hard, and our police department is working hard. It's just nice to be recognized.”
The Broussard Police Department is thankful for its officers who uphold the law to keep their community safe and secure.
