Vegetation fire quickly burns 255 acres in Brentwood
BRENTWOOD – A fast-moving vegetation fire scorched 255 acres Wednesday afternoon in Brentwood before crews were able to gain the upper hand, authorities said.
The blaze began around 3:20 p.m. near the intersection of Empire Mine and Deer Valley roads.
Cal Fire and Contra Costa County Fire Protection District crews were dispatched to the fire, which was initially reported to have burned 50 acres and then 100 acres.
In a social media post just before 5:30 p.m., Cal Fire said the blaze was 60% contained. Crews were continuing to build and maintain control lines, according to the agency.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
