Funeral services announced for 9-year-old boy found dead near Lake Sherwood

TOPEKA (KSNT) – Funeral services have been announced for a 9-year-old boy found dead near Lake Sherwood last week.

Zerick Ozuna's funeral is scheduled for 11 a.m. Thursday, June 27 at Western Hills Church, located at 29th and Auburn, according to his public obituary. His family is asking for memorial contributions to the Topeka Zoo.

Ozuna was found dead in a home with neck and chest wounds on Thursday, June 20, the Shawnee County Sheriff's Office said. His mother was taken into custody and later died at a Kansas City hospital. She announced one day earlier that she was closing her business.

Ozuna had just finished third grade at Farley Elementary School.
