Powerful winds cause damage in NE Oklahoma City

OKLAHOMA CITY (KFOR) - Straight line winds wreaked havoc along Britton Road in Northeast Oklahoma City Tuesday night. 

“It’s bad… It's a mess. It looks like a tornado hit,” said Olimar Garcia, who works along Britton. 

Our Four Warn Storm Team estimates wind speeds were at least 80 miles per hour. 

The Oklahoma City Fire Department says between 10 p.m. Tuesday and 7 a.m. Wednesday, firefighters responded to more than 150 incidents, including two dozen calls for downed power lines. 

"A lot of damage around the city,” said Garcia. “It's dangerous." 

One of the hardest hit buildings was Gallagher Insurance, Risk Management and Consulting. 

Off camera, employees confirmed to KFOR they’ll be working from home for the foreseeable future. 

"I think it's crazy. It's like it's just unbelievable. It's really unbelievable,” said Karen Warmbier. 

The destructive winds also hit the nearby Cedar Lake Plaza, where Warmbier’s husband works. 

"His boss called and told everybody to stay home,” said Warmbier. “The building is just not conducive to working right now. So everybody stay home. But, he needed to get his computer so he could work a little bit at home." 

Property owners told us off camera there is significant water and roof damage. They plan to assess when employees can return to the office building next week.
