CT’s Northeast Probate Court is moving. Here’s why.

The judge said the court “works with families during times of need” with services.

Connecticut’s Northeast Probate Court has moved to a more accessible location in Putnam, near the town’s municipal buildings, officials said.

Judge of Probate Gabrielle Labonte said this week that the Probate Court has moved from 508 Pomfret St. to 84 Providence St., a spot more easily reached by public transportation.

“The new space is situated in the heart of Putnam, right near the new municipal complex,” Labonte said. “This move enables us to better accommodate visitors and enhances accessibility, being conveniently located on the public transportation route.”

The Northeast Probate Court services the towns of Ashford, Brooklyn, Eastford, Pomfret, Putnam, Thompson and Woodstock.

In a statement, Labonte said the court “works with families during times of need” with services including placing children with family and friend guardians instead of in foster care; supporting individuals with intellectual disabilities; supervising the care of folks who need conservators; and assisting older adults who are aging in place in their homes.

The court is open from 8:15 a.m. to 4:45 p.m. Monday through Thursday and from 8:15 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Friday.

The court’s phone number remains the same, 860-928-4844.
