The Heriot’s Rugby Women coaching and management team has been announced by the club as preparations continue for the upcoming 2024/25 season.

New Backs Coach Carl McWilliams will join returning Head Coach Craig Robertson and medical support, Team Doctor Akin Onigbinde Rae and Physiotherapist Murdo Fraser.

Preseason for Heriot’s Rugby Women will start on Tuesday, 2 July with a player meeting at Goldenacre, which existing and new players are invited to join.

Training will commence for the squad on Thursday, 4 July at Inverleith Park, and continue every Monday and Thursday

A former 7s player for New Zealand, Carl began coaching sessions for Heriot’s Rugby Women during the Sarah Beaney Cup run last season, continuing over the summer with 7s training.

Craig is looking forward to getting the squad back together for a pre-season focused on fitness and skills-based session, building on the momentum from the previous season.

‘‘A number of the players have enjoyed the 7’s season and had success, which will build confidence going into the league season.

‘‘Our main objective is to improve on last year’s results, we know we can compete with the top teams and came close to our rivals so we need to focus on how we can get the win.

‘‘The development of players remains a priority and we hope to build on the number of players selected at representative level.’’
