COLUMBUS, Ohio (WCMH) -- A pizzeria known for unusual flavors and late hours of operation is closing one of its locations.

Mikey's Late Night Slice is shutting the doors this week to its Olde Towne East shop at 892 Oak St., the company announced Monday on social media. The pizza joint will operate through Wednesday.

"It's been a heck of a ride, and we'll sure miss the neighborhood, The Attic, and all the friends that came with it," the post read.

Operating out of the same storefront, The Attic Comedy Club will stay at the Oak Street spot. Replacing Late Night Slice as the location's new food option will be Olde Towne Tavern, which is currently located across the street. Described on its website as "a friendly neighborhood restaurant and bar," Olde Towne Tavern serves traditional bar food with a healthy spin.

The Oak Street shop is closing so that Late Night Slice can focus on opening three locations this summer. Those will be at Easton, Ohio State University and Bridge Park in Dublin. Other Late Night Slice locations in Columbus include:

  • 4th and Main (268 S. 4th St.)
  • High and Vine (457 N. High St.)
  • Hollywood Casino Columbus (200 Georgesville Road, serving a limited menu)
  • Short North Oddfellows (1030 N. High St., a food truck only serving pizza)
  • Land Grant Brewing (424 W. Town St., a food truck only serving pizza)

Late Night Slice also has a Cincinnati location.

Mike Sorboro opened Late Night Slice in his apartment's parking lot in 2009, specializing in New York-style pizza slices. Quirky flavors like the "Pizza Dawg," a butterflied and pepperoni-stuffed hot dog using a pizza slice as a bun, and the "Cheezus Crust," a grill cheese sandwich using pizza as bread, helped make the chain a Columbus staple. With most of its locations open until 2:30 or 3 a.m. depending on the night, it also became popular as a go-to late night option.
