Novato police accuse suspect of setting fire near store

The fire broke out near the Safeway on Nave Drive in the Hamilton neighborhood.

Novato police arrested a suspect who allegedly started a fire in the Hamilton area. No injuries or structure damages were reported.

The fire was reported at about 8:45 p.m. Monday near the Safeway store on Nave Drive. Police found the fire burning east of the business and noticed a suspicious person exiting the area, Novato police Sgt. Alan Bates said. Officers detained the man and determined that he set the fire.

Aroni Ahsiu, 41, of Novato was booked into the Marin County Jail, where his bail was set at $3,000.
