Race called in Democratic primary between Rep. Jamaal Bowman and George Latimer: AP

Rep. Jamaal Bowman was unsuccessful in his bid to secure a second term in Congress — the progressive Democrat was bested by Westchester County Executive George Latimore, according to The Associated Press.

AP called the race at 9:38 p.m. Eastern Time.

Bowman had been in an entrenched duel with Latimore in a contest that raised and shelled out $25 million — making it the most expensive congressional primary in history.

The 16th congressional district includes Co-Op City and parts of the Bronx, Yonkers, and a large swath of southern Westchester.

Latimer was vying to become the first challenger to unseat a member of the Democrats' left wing.

The seat is reliably blue, meaning whoever wins the Democratic primary will be the heavy favorite to win in November.

The second-term Bronx congressman fell out of favor after pleading guilty to a misdemeanor for pulling a fire alarm in a House office building back in October.

Some called for his expulsion, while others accused the progressive lawmaker of being an insurrectionist.

Bowman exclusively told Raw Story he’s kicked himself over the episode ever since.

“Yeah. I hate unforced errors, and this is an unforced error,” a contrite Bowman said.

He could have faced time behind bars, but instead struck a plea deal and paid a fine.
