Brooklyn mom with disabilities finally gets new home: 'waited a decade'.

NEW YORK (PIX11) -- Monica Morales met 45-year-old Katrina Jones from East New York in May.

Jones says her life was turned upside down when she was diagnosed about ten years ago with a neurological disease. Every day, she says it was a struggle to get around her NYCHA apartment in her wheelchair.

Jones lived at NYCHA’s Boulevard houses with her two children, ages 19 and 5. Her daughter, Geneva Johnson, says their everyday routine is a struggle. Jones says ten years ago, she started to have pain in her legs, and when she went to the doctor, she received bad news. She had a progressive neurological disease.

A NYCHA spokesperson told Pix11 news, “Boulevard Houses is in the process of undergoing comprehensive renovations through the PACT program. The elevators in this building were recently modernized and are currently fully operational. NYCHA and our PACT partners at this development are reaching out to this resident to coordinate a solution that meets her immediate needs."

UPDATE: Thanks to NYCHA, Jones got a wheelchair-accessible new two-bedroom apartment in her neighborhood. She moved into her new home in June.
