Baltimore City phone lines drop Tuesday evening, though 911 remains online

Baltimore City phone lines shut off Tuesday evening, though 911 remained online.

A “Verizon outage” impacting inbound calls for all city services, including 311, police and fire, started at 5 p.m., city comptroller spokesperson K.C. Kelleher said. Calls to police precincts Tuesday evening dropped without a dial tone.

“I think it’s crucial that 911 is still working, and that is great. For everyone else it’s just a little bit stressful,” Kelleher said. “Verizon was working to fix the issue almost immediately and we are hounding them.”

Kelleher said Verizon could not estimate when service would return.

For nonemergency matters typically directed to 311 or city agencies, residents are encouraged to use the BALT311 mobile app or go to the website.
