TOPEKA (KSNT) - The Shawnee County Sheriff's Office says the mother of a 9-year-old boy who was killed on June 20 has died at a local hospital.

The sheriff's office says Shyla M. Goracke, 29, of Topeka died at a Kansas City hospital on Monday, June 24. She was arrested in connection to the death of her 9-year-old son after an incident on Southwest Worwick Town Road near Sherwood Lake.

When deputies arrived they found the child suffering from multiple wounds to the chest and neck. The child was pronounced dead at the scene.

27 News discovered the woman who owns the house where the incident took place also owns Mutt’Staches Mobile Grooming. A company van was seen in the driveway of the home where the child was found dead.

A post was made Wednesday on the shop's Facebook saying she was shutting her business down.

"It kills me to still have to go this route, but I would never do anything like this if I felt it wasn't my only option I had. At the end of the day, I have to take care of my son and myself."
