ONE cafe could be selling Britain’s cheapest roast after pricing the classic at £6.50 for a mountain of meat and veg.

Kelly’s Cafe in Cadishead, Greater Manchester, is owned by Kelly Rooney, 39, who keeps her prices low and affordable for her regulars.

The Sunday roast consists of chicken and stuffing or a choice of a different meat of the day with potatoes and three types of veg.

But, Kelly has banned one type of meat down to its consistently expensive price: lamb.

A small roast is still plentiful and a snip at £6.50 – while a large roast costs just one pound more at £7.50

The traditional weekly meal is so cheap that loyal customers come back for it every single day.

Kelly, from Irlam said: “We have a lot of pensioners coming in and some of them live on their own and are struggling. I keep the prices low so I know they have a meal.

“I have customers who come here every day for a brew and take a cake home.

“In the winter we sell a lot more Sunday roasts, maybe 40, but in the summer it’s 15 or 20.

“The staff here are really friendly and if someone comes on their own, we often sit with them and socialise. We couldn’t have a better set of girls.

“We do chicken every week. As well as that, we do one week of pork, one week of gammon and one week of beef, then we go back to pork.

“We don’t do lamb as it is so expensive and I don’t want to increase the prices.”

Kelly’s Cafe is spotlessly clean with a friendly atmosphere and outdoor seating for alfresco dining when the sun is shining.

Customers arrive when the cafe opens at 6.30am when it sells breakfast at an equally good value.

Kelly sells £6 giant breakfast baps and full English breakfasts for under a fiver – those stay popular until the cafe’s closing time of 1.30pm daily.

Food can be eaten in or taken away – and with an industrial site just behind the cafe it is a popular spot for workers.

Regular customer Jim Pascoe, 77, said: “We come here seven days a week. My wife likes to eat here rather than at home. It has comfortable prices and my wife likes the Sunday roast.”

Wife Freda, 78, says: “It’s really friendly here and we meet all sorts of people. The Sunday roast is great – it’s so tasty and it’s not expensive.”

Regular customer Niall Gannon, 26, is enjoying lunch outside with his son in the sunshine.

He says: “I come here every weekend. The food is very nice and really good quality at a good price. I have got to know the staff and it is really friendly.

His son Jacob Sanders, 9, said: “I like the way they cook the food. It tastes better than other places and the staff are really nice and they like kids like me.”

Another customer, who preferred to remain anonymous said: “I come in every week for the specials, they often do chicken and mash potatoes and I come here every weekend for The Sunday roast – you just can’t beat it.”

What's included in the £6.50 roast?

Kelly rotates which meet is on offer each week, switching between one week of pork, one week of gammon, and one week of beef.

But one meat, chicken, is always available for those getting the £6.50 steal.

Customers will also nab potatoes, like carrots, broccoli, and cauliflower.

They’ll also get stuffing and lashings of gravy drizzled all over the dish.
