Agencies struggle to remit aid to Niger as food crisis expected to peak in June

Delivering humanitarian aid in Niger was already a great challenge before the political crisis triggered by the coup in July 2023. But now, local humanitarian organisations that rely on financial backing from international bodies like the EU and USAID have had to reduce their work significantly. Some have been forced to shut down entirely. The most vulnerable are hit the hardest, just as the food crisis – expected to peak in June – is set to be the worst of the last 10 years.
