Tuition Assistance Program deadline is June 30

Time is running out to apply for New York State's Tuition Assistance Program.

SCHENECTADY, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- Time is running out to apply for New York State's Tuition Assistance Program. College students must apply for TAP by June 30.

As part of this year's budget, the eligibility requirements for TAP assistance have expanded, and the minimum award has increased. Families making under $125,000 a year can now apply and will receive at least $1,000.

Local lawmakers said the program helps create a more educated and skilled workforce.

"There are a lot of job opportunities out there," Assemblyman Angelo Santabarbara said. "There are a lot of technical career programs. SUNY Schenectady has done a great job in identifying those needs in our area. We need people to become qualified and access the programs here at SUNY Schenectady and programs that get people ready to take these jobs."

SUNY also received more than $60 million in additional funding from the state budget.
