Daycare set to open at Shaker Place Nursing Home

Plans to build a new childcare facility in Albany County took a step forward on Monday.

ALBANY, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- Plans to build a new childcare facility in Albany County took a step forward on Monday. A ribbon cutting was held for Little Sprouts, an on-site daycare at Shaker Place Nursing Home.

It will provide free and low-cost childcare to full-time Shaker Place and Albany County employees. Officials said it will help the nursing home recruit and retain staff and provide students with unique educational opportunities.

"How great will it be to see the intergenerational programming between residents and children getting along, having book time, reading to each other, and enjoying their upbringing and growing up," Shaker Place Executive Deputy Shawn Thelen said.

The daycare center is scheduled to open in July and will be open from 6:45 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Childcare is free for employees earning below $51,000 a year. The maximum weekly cost per child is $140 depending on the child's age and the employee's income.
