New sculptor in Topeka eager to share creations
TOPEKA - (KSNT) A new sculptor has moved to Topeka.
Aggie Mendoza is the owner of the sculpting business, "Bears R Us." The business is originally from New Mexico, but found it's way to the capital city due to unforeseen circumstances.
Ongoing wildfires forced Mendoza and her family to pack up from Ruidoso Downs, N.M. and move east to Kansas. Mendoza tells 27 News, even with all the recent change in her life, she's grateful to be in Topeka.
"I have friends and family here in Topeka. I'm gonna try and see if I can do and sell some of my bears. They're the only things I was able to get out," Mendoza said.
Mendoza has been creating wooden sculptures for over 27 years. Her work ranges from wooden bears, to bald eagles and even American figures, like Uncle Sam.
"It's been my life all the time. I learned from my family and I love it," Mendoza said.
You can visit Mendoza and some of her items at Cabrera's Auto Repair located at 2700 NW Topeka Boulevard.
